Adam Lorain's Cowardly Lion Dilemma of Recusal

Amo Lee is Making a Come Back to Help Friend Seema Patel

On May 28, 2026, four members of the San Mateo City Council gathered to interview candidates for the Planning Commission and decide whether incumbent Commissioner Seema Patel would be reappointed.

After reviewing a field of applicants and conducting interviews that stretched on for hours, three councilmembers ultimately voted to remove Patel and move in a different direction.

The fourth vote from Mayor Adam Loraine went the other way.

While his colleagues were weighing resumes, qualifications, and fresh perspectives, Adam faced what some might call a political conscience crisis plagued by the Ghosts of Political Alliances Past.

Was it loyalty? Friendship? Pressures from political debt?  Only Adam knows for sure.

In the satirical cartoon, Mayor is left staring, wondering whether public officials should follow independent judgment or should they be beholden to political friendships.

The result? A 3–1 vote.  The lesson? Every vote tells a story.

Sometimes the most interesting story is the one behind the lone dissenting vote.

Just when residents thought the legendary "Envelope Gate" saga had finally been sealed, stamped, and filed away, a familiar figure has emerged from the political fog.  (oh-no) Amo Lee is back.

Amo Lee is returning to help longtime friend, shenanigans ally, and recently removed Planning Commissioner Seema Patel in her run for the District 3 City Council seat.

Lee-Patel duo means extreme drama for the Nov. election season.

Veterans of San Mateo politics recall Lee's rise to fame during the now-legendary "Envelope Gate" controversy, a mysterious episode involving envelopes, accusations, and enough explanations to require an explanation of the explanations (double head-shake).

Once Amo claimed Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” came through her front window. Ripley was quoted as saying “Believe it or not”.

Joining Lee and Patel are the "Usual Suspects" Bonilla, Grimes, and Swire who are expected to continue their strategy of turning routine city issues into full-scale political drama emergencies.

Meanwhile, residents are preparing for another election season by stocking up on coffee, popcorn, and Nextdoor mute buttons.

Stay tuned for more craziness coming your way.
